Edinburgh, a great renaissance centre, is the capital of Scotland. Known as the "modern Athens" of the North, its magnificent architecture shifts from the medieval Old Town, to the grace of the Georgian New Town, to the modern architecture of the new Scottish Parliament buildings. Above it all, in towering splendour, stands the Castle.

World famous for its annual August festival, Edinburgh offers a variety of cultural and sporting activities all year and is the gateway to the Scottish highlands.

Travel advice for H1N1 Virus

On 11 June, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the alert level for the H1N1 virus (known as 'swine flu') to phase 6. The 3rd International Conference on Movement Dysfunction is continuing to monitor the situation carefully.

The WHO states that it does not recommend a restriction on travel (http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/frequently_asked_questions/travel/en/index.html) and the 3rd International Conference on Movement Dysfunction will go ahead as planned in Edinburgh, UK, 30 October-1 November 2009.

The WHO gives some advice on recommended guidelines for travellers on their website - http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/guidance/individuals/en/index.html

We recommend that all participants have appropriate health insurance policies in place when travelling.
