Demonstration of rehabilitation ultrasound imaging studies of the lumbopelvic region using the Esaote Ultrasound Equipment from Imotek by Jackie Whittaker, University of Southampton.

Moorfoot Room (Lomond Suite ~ Level 0): Sels Instruments
The Sels Posture Monitoring Device (SPMD) is a novel user friendly device for monitoring, reporting and correcting body posture in general, and movements of spine and joints in particular. Main features of the SPMD are the immediate response time, the combination of immediate and long term feedback, and the advanced reporting features, all in a very user friendly setup, both in terms of use of the actual sensor, as well as signal processing and reporting features.

Kieran O’Sullivan, Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist from the University of Limerick (Ireland), will be demonstrating the possibilities of the SPMD to monitor lumbar posture of low back pain patients. Mr. O’Sullivan has recently obtained funding from the Health Research Board of Ireland to undertake research on occupational low back pain using the SPMD. He will also present some initial results using the SPMD on Saturday, Oral Ref O32.

Kilsyth Room (Lomond Suite ~ Level 0)  - Gyrokinesis*
Suzanne Scott, a founder member and educator for the Pilates Foundation UK and experienced Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teacher will give a half hour introductory session to Gyrokinesis and the principles underlying this innovative movement system, in which fluidity and integrated whole body movement are encouraged.

Delegates are invited to come and try on the Kangoo Jumps boots and experience the sensation of the ‘cushion of air’ that the wearer feels as the boots absorb 80% of the impact on joints. Kangoo Jumps boots provide rehabilitation from injury and joint protection without the risk of over training and assist in a patient’s healing process.

Sidlaw Room (Level 3)  Get Read! Get Writing!  Writing for publication workshop at ICMD Conference – Professor Ann Moore, Editor, Manual Therapy
This workshop will provide delegates with expert advice and tuition on writing for publication in physical therapy journals.  It will demystify the process of preparing a manuscript for submission to a journal, and will discuss how the manuscript should be structured, what should be included, and how to remain enthusiastic during the process.  The workshop will include the role of journal Editors in the publication process; the peer-review process and how it works and what to expect in feedback; preparing a paper for submission to a scientific journal; and tips on how to write successful papers.

* Why you should attend the classes…

Those with some Pilates experience may enjoy participating in a more challenging and flowing class that focuses on how to progress basic stability exercises. Participants wishing to sample a different movement system may find Gyrokinesis fluid progressions of basic spinal and girdle patterns a welcome challenge to sagittally oriented 'conventional' fitness programmes.
